Rick conducts "Dream On", a piece composed for the TCU Jazz Ensemble with guest artist Carl Saunders

First Adventures In Jazz is the new series for young jazz bands with all the features you are looking for in a young jazz chart!

Playable by minimum instrumentation of alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet, trombone, piano, bass and drums. Expandable to full big band instrumentation. Ranges limited to 4th space E for trumpet and D above middle C for trombone.

Parts included for flute, clarinet, French horn, treble clef trombone, tuba and vibes.

When appropriate, a percussion pack is included, with parts for your auxiliary percussionists.

All rhythm parts are written out, and are playable by young musicians.

Each chart includes 2 bass parts. One is very basic, for less experienced players. The second is more challenging, and provides more musical interest. Even with a beginning bassist you can play these charts right away.

Written solos. Your students can solo even if they can’t improvise. Improvisation sheets are also included for students who want to improvise instead of playing a written solo.

Each chart is recorded on a CD, giving the teacher an excellent source for teaching correct style, soloing, and rhythm section playing.

Many jazz styles are available, including swing, Latin, rock and ballad.

  These charts are $40.00 each

Blues, Anyone? -Grade l+; Blues, Anyone? is a straight-ahead swing chart that will teach your young students how to play swing figures. There is a lot of opportunity to teach dynamics as well. This tune is easy to play, but will hold the attention of your band.

Night Song-Grade l+; Night Song is a straight-eighth ballad that features your lead alto sax player. The tune has a beautiful melody, and will allow your lead alto to work on phrasing and musicality.
