First Adventures In Jazz is the new series for
young jazz bands with all the features you are looking for in
a young jazz chart!
• Playable
by minimum instrumentation of alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet,
trombone, piano, bass and drums. Expandable to full big band
instrumentation. Ranges limited to 4th space E for trumpet
and D above middle C for trombone.
• Parts
included for flute, clarinet, French horn, treble clef
trombone, tuba
and vibes.
• When appropriate, a percussion pack is included,
with parts for your auxiliary percussionists.
• All rhythm parts are
written out, and are playable by young musicians.
• Each
chart includes 2 bass parts. One is very basic, for less
experienced players. The second is more challenging,
and provides more musical interest. Even with a beginning
bassist
you can play these charts right away.
• Written solos. Your
students can solo even if they can’t improvise. Improvisation
sheets are also included for students who want to improvise
instead
of playing a written solo.
• Each chart is recorded on a
CD, giving the teacher an excellent source for teaching
correct style,
soloing, and rhythm section playing.
• Many jazz styles
are available, including swing, Latin, rock and ballad.
• These charts are $40.00 each

l+; Blues, Anyone? is a straight-ahead
swing chart that will teach your young students
how to play swing figures. There is a lot of opportunity
to teach dynamics as well. This tune is easy to

First Adventure-Grade
l+; First Adventure is a rock chart,
with a feel very much like Birdland by Weather Report.
It has a great beat, and is great fun for young
bands to play. The tune has a solo section to feature
your best players, and plenty of dynamics to help
your band play a rock chart in a musical way.
Listen
Night Song-Grade l+;
Night Song is a straight-eighth ballad that features
your lead alto sax player. The tune has a beautiful
melody, and will allow your lead alto to work on
phrasing and musicality. The band has a supporting
role, but everyone has an interesting part. This
tune would make a perfect ballad for a concert or
a jazz festival.
